Our 2-1-1 Service Area Amelia |
The Information & Referral Center, a 2-1-1 VIRGINIA provider, links people with needs in the Richmond/Southside regions of Virginia to available human services. The Center is accredited by the Alliance of Information and Referral Systems.
How Information and Referral (I&R) Works
The Information and Referral Center collects and maintains information on thousands of human service organizations -- public and private agencies, civic clubs, mutual support or self-help groups, non-profit and for-profit agencies. Each one of these organizations offers different services. One of them may be able to help you.
A trained I & R staff person helps determine which referral will best meet your needs. They will start by gathering as much information as needed to steer you in the right direction. Any information you share with an I & R staff person will only be used to help you handle your situation. All names and information are held in strict confidence.
What You Can Do
When you go to an agency for assistance, you can help them help you by bringing all of the information you have about your situation. A little preparation before you go to the service will save you a lot of time and effort later.
You should bring:
- Picture identification
- All documents verifying your situation (such as disconnection and eviction notices)
- A list of your monthly expenses and income
Be prepared to:
- Explain what caused your situation
- Explain what steps you have taken to improve your situation
