Director, Marketing & Communications 

United Way of Greater Richmond & Petersburg seeks a creative, strategic and analytical marketing and communications professional to plan, develop and implement all marketing strategies, communications, and public relations activities for United Way of Greater Richmond & Petersburg. The Director works towards specific annual and longer-term strategic communications, revenue and program goals. As a representative of the United Way Greater Richmond and Petersburg, the Director, Marketing & Communications relates the value of the organization to the community; creates a compelling case for programmatic successes, objectives and needs in sophisticated and appealing ways across many channels. The Director excels in connecting donor and community leader goals with financial opportunities, community impact and strategic priorities of United Way of Greater Richmond & Petersburg. The Director works with and coordinates with other functions of United Way to ensure necessary materials are developed and produced to meet fundraising, programmatic, brand and leader requirements in a timely and professional manner.

Qualifications: The ideal candidate will have demonstrated skills, knowledge and experience in the design and execution of marketing, communications and public relations activities for direct solicitations in print and digital, as well as experience and knowledge of social media practices, with 7-10 years’ demonstrated successful experience managing the development and implementation of donor strategies, solicitations and community impact/program marketing based on analysis and market knowledge, strong creative production, and drive to attract, excite and retain donors. Experience developing and managing budgets, managing vendors, and developing and supervising personnel and collaborative teams. Demonstrated successful experience writing press releases, making presentations and negotiating with media. Experience overseeing the design and production of print materials and publications. Strong creative, strategic, analytical, organizational and personal marketing skills. Excellent project management skills. Commitment to working in cross-functional teams. Strong oral and written communications skills. Ability to manage multiple projects at a time and under deadline. Strong interpersonal skills. Self-starter, independent and goal minded, eager to create and achieve activity and revenue goals. Impeccable ethics. Bachelor’s degree or equivalent required.

Director, Leadership Giving 

United Way of Greater Richmond & Petersburg seeks an energetic, self-motivated fundraising professional to establish and manage relationships in a portfolio of leadership (starting at $1,000), major and planned gift donors. As a representative of the United Way Greater Richmond and Petersburg, the Director of Leadership Giving communicates the value of the organization to the community, creates a compelling case for programmatic successes, objectives and needs to individuals and groups. The Director excels in connecting donor goals with financial opportunities and strategic priorities of United Way. Working with the Chief Development Officer, s/he establishes and meets financial and other strategic relationship goals to advance the mission. The Director is a seasoned and savvy fundraising professional who is resourceful and self-motivated to meet financial and other strategic goals with great independence and reflecting the strong character and dignity of the organization and her/his profession.

Qualifications: The ideal candidate will have a strong, demonstrated knowledge of fundraising practices, including knowledge of major giving and planned giving preferred, with a minimum of seven to ten years’ experience managing a portfolio of donors to meet annual, strategic and longer-term revenue and relationship goals, with little to no oversight or direction. Demonstrated experience in planned giving preferred. Experience creating and leading donor programs that demonstrate success in attracting, retaining and well-stewarding donors. The candidate should possess strong interpersonal, written and verbal communication skills, and be comfortable creating and making formal and informal presentations and proposals that inspire and persuade. The candidate should be an independent, goal-minded, self-starter who is eager to create and achieve activity and revenue goals. Must have impeccable ethics and be discerning, able to navigate delicate business and personal discussions and circumstances. Local travel is required; must have valid Driver’s License. Bachelor’s degree or equivalent required.

As a representative of the United Way Greater Richmond & Petersburg, the Director of Community Giving communicates the value of the organization to the community; creates a compelling case for programmatic success, objectives and needs; and can speak to donors in a language suited for the relationship development goals. The Director, Community Giving excels in connecting donor goals with financial opportunities and strategic priorities of UWGRP. In conjunction with UWGRP leadership, s/he establishes and meets financial and other strategic relationship goals to advance the mission of the organization. The Director, Community Giving is independently resourceful in establishing and building relationships to meet financial and other strategic goals of UWGRP with great independence and business savvy, reflecting the strong character and dignity of the organization and profession.

Qualifications: The ideal candidate will have a strong knowledge of fundraising practices, with a minimum of three to five years’ experience managing a portfolio of donors to meet annual, strategic and longer-term revenue and relationship goals, with little to no oversight. The candidate should possess strong interpersonal, written and verbal communication skills, and be capable of creating and making formal and informal presentations and proposals that inspire and persuade. The candidate should be an independent, goal-minded, self-starter who is eager to create and achieve activity and revenue goals. Must have impeccable ethics and be discerning, able to navigate delicate business and personal discussions and circumstances. Local travel is required; must have valid Driver’s License. High School Diploma or equivalent required; Bachelor’s degree preferred.
