Manager for Evidence-Based Decision Making 

United Way of Greater Richmond & Petersburg, in collaboration with VCU and Bridging Richmond – an important cradle to career partnership designed to ensure that all children and youth in the region have the support necessary to succeed academically – seeks an analytical, technologically-savvy individual to build and support capacity to provide information, best practice, community data, and research for decision making for our region.

This position presents an exciting opportunity to significantly build regional capacity to collect, present, and analyze data and information to monitor educational success on a regional level. It is also an opportunity to significantly advance the alignment of the current work of organizations contributing to the success of our youth and workforce preparation by aiding in defining performance measurement that contributes to “moving the dial” on community level indicators related to education, community and family supports, and workforce preparation.

Qualifications: Master’s degree required or the equivalent in training and work experience at a level that equates to an advanced degree. The successful candidate will have a mastery in business intelligence tools (e.g. Tableau or Spotfire), as well as regional, student-level data systems (e.g. City Span). Familiarity with information management and education data (e.g. Youthservices.net, Powerschool and Aspen) is essential. S/he will also have experience with database technology (e.g. SQL, Microsoft Access) and have a demonstrated competence in using software and technology to exchange, merge, summarize, and present data, as well as a demonstrated knowledge of evaluation practice. In addition, s/he will have a mastery in MS Office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint) and be proficient in Google Programs (Drive, Sheets and Docs). S/he will perform regular data extraction, manipulation, analysis, and interpretation of results using Excel, SAS, JMP and/or SPSS. S/he must have the ability to research and analyze policies and procedures including “best practices” in data and information management and related topics and to document processes using diagrams, charts, and narrative text.

Director, City and Schools Partnership

In order for the City and Schools Partnership to achieve its ambitious mission – “to create the climate and conditions for every child to succeed by providing a sustainable, coordinated system of supports and access” – a dynamic and detail-oriented Director is required. The Director, City and Schools Partnership position represents a collaboration among United Way of Greater Richmond & Petersburg, Petersburg City Public Schools, departments of the state and local government, and nonprofit organizations serving Petersburg. The Director will be an employee of United Way of Greater Richmond & Petersburg and will be part of a small team responsible for driving the Partnership’s work forward, by supporting day-to-day communications and administration, as well as community engagement, and data functions. This is a part- time, grant-funded position, which does not include benefits, anticipated to work up to 20 hours per week.

Qualifications: Bachelor’s Degree in Human Services or related field required; Master’s Degree preferred. The successful candidate will have demonstrated success in building and maintaining relations with community leaders; experience in fundraising or grant writing (preferred); experience taking directions from multiple stakeholders; and demonstrated commitment to the collective impact concepts. S/he will also have demonstrated advanced project management skills; flexibility and the ability to work autonomously; strong analytical and critical thinking skills; strong community engagement and facilitation skills; excellent interpersonal and communication skills (written and oral); ability to build relationships with a cross-sectional range of stakeholders in the local or regional area, including community leaders; and the presence to inspire confidence and passion in external audiences and to build effective relationship with a range of stakeholders.
