Jewish Family Services
Jewish Family Services is a forward-thinking health and social service agency dedicated to helping people achieve their full potential—regardless of age, race, religion or circumstances. Serving the greater Richmond community since 1849, JFS continues to excel in innovative programming and professional service delivery. Programs include home health care, counseling, care management, adoption, in-home infant care, guardianship, and services for the developmentally disabled.
Programs Supported by the Community Action Fund:
Family Counseling program provides subsidized individual, marital, family, and group counseling for mental health problems ranging from temporary life-adjustment difficulties to life-threatening depression. Many of those served are poor, working poor, and uninsured. Counseling services are provided by experienced licensed clinical social workers, licensed professional counselors and psychologists. Counseling services for homebound elderly and disabled persons are offered in their own homes. In addition, JFS provides sexual offender treatment to children, adolescents, and adults, both on-site and also in-home.
The Special Needs Collaborative between Jewish Family Services and the Weinstein Jewish Community Center serves individuals with developmental disabilities who lack social, educational and recreational opportunities. Program services include case management, counseling, support groups, inclusive preschool, childcare and camp programs, drama programs, recreational and social skills activities, adaptive physical education, and transportation for group activities. The program also offers advocacy and empowerment opportunities, training and referral for caregivers, parent education workshops and teacher training. Programming takes place at both the Weinstein Jewish Community Center and at Jewish Family Services.
Home Health Care program helps frail, at-risk older adults remain in their own homes by assisting them with critical activities of daily living including such as bathing, dressing, personal hygiene, cooking, and transportation. The program also supports family caregivers, allowing them to return to work and to assume some of their normal daily activities.
