Gail Letts, SunTrust Regional CEO, Is Our New Board Chair

Gail Letts (left), President and CEO of SunTrust Bank, Central Virginia, is the new Chair of the Board of Directors for United Way of Greater Richmond & Petersburg. Letts, who has been on the Board of Directors since 2008, will serve as Chair until June 30, 2014.

Gail is actively involved in the community, serving on several boards and task forces. You can read about her community work here. Gail earned her bachelor’s degree from Wilkes University in Pennsylvania.

Channing J. Martin, chair of the Environmental Law Group at Williams Mullen and a longtime United Way Board member, was elected as the Board's Vice Chair. Martin has practiced environmental law for more than 30 years. He received his bachelor’s degree and his J.D. from Washington & Lee University. 

Four new members have also been elected to the Board of Directors:

  • Robert K. Blake, longtime United Way volunteer and current Chair of the Community Building Committee, which oversees United Way’s community impact work. Blake has served on United Way action councils, the allocations committee, and as a member of the Age Wave Planning Leadership Council. He was previously a Vice President with Bank of America and most recently Program Director for Leadership Metro Richmond.

  • Jonathan A. Leon, treasurer of The Brink’s Company. His volunteer service with United Way includes serving on the Board’s Investment Committee and Finance Committee. He holds a degree in finance from the University of Connecticut.

  • Gail W. Johnson, founder and owner of Rainbow Stations, which offers early childhood education programs. She is also the chair of United Way’s Women’s Leadership Initiative and a member of the Smart Beginnings Greater Richmond Leadership Council.

  • J. Scott Walters, an Associate Vice President and the Regional Counsel for the Mid-Atlantic Regional Practice Group at Nationwide Insurance. He has previously served on committees and the Board of Directors for United Way of Marathon County in Wisconsin. He received an undergraduate degree from Iowa State University and a law degree from the William Mitchell College of Law in St. Paul, Minnesota.
