Women's Leadership Initiative Reaches 1,000 Members!

Today, United Way's Women's Leadership Initiative added it's 1,000th member -- and more!

At a luncheon hosted by Cassandra Conover, Petersburg's Commonwealth's Attorney and a new WLI Advisory Council member, 55 Petersburg women came together to learn more about the initiative. They were so moved that many women joined on the spot -- taking the initiative's membership from 977 to 1,016 in less than one hour.

"I am so excited!" Cassandra said after the luncheon. "I made that promise to [WLI Chair] Gail Johnson that we'd hit that 1,000 mark. It was very important to me that it was Petersburg that did that. I want people to know that in Petersburg, we have people who care and people who will do."

Karen Winston was the official 1,000th member of the Women's Leadership Initiative. After the luncheon, Karen (center in photo) joined (from left) Gail, Cassandra and United Way staff members Betty Hobbs and Beth Tyson to celebrate the achievement.

Founded in 2007, the Women's Leadership Initiative harnesses the caring power of women to help today's children become tomorrow's leaders by giving, advocating and volunteering. Every local woman is welcome -- sign up today!
