Our Work

United Way advances the common good by focusing on the building blocks of a good life:

  • Quality education, so our children can succeed in school, graduate and achieve their potential.
  • Enough income so families and individuals are financially stable and have places to live.
  • Good health, especially for our older adults, so they may age with dignity and independence.

Through United Way's work to build coalitions, invest in 90 programs at 50 local partner agencies, and provide community leadership, your United Way support changes the lives of tens of thousands of people every year in the Greater Richmond-Petersburg region.

United Way's Community Action Fund Grant Awards for 2011-2012

United Way has a significant research and community planning function and regularly conducts and collaborates on community initiatives. We identify the region's most pressing needs, then develop solutions and invest in the programs and initiatives that will make the greatest impact.
