Volunteer Income Tax Assistance Program Delivered $484,241 in Tax Refunds for 299 Chesterfield County Households
Our Volunteer Income Tax Assistance program offers free tax preparation services for families and individuals with income of $56,000 or less. In 2021, our team of trained staff and volunteers helped people throughout Chesterfield get their full refund and bring money back into the community.
Support for Single Moms: New Program Provided $11,917 Child Care Scholarship for a Chesterfield Mom
The cost of childcare is often more than $1,000 per month, per child. Our new scholarship program, WomenRise, takes away this massive expense for single moms, covering their childcare costs in full while they pursue post-secondary education. This year, we awarded a total of $65,000 in scholarships to six single moms in the area, including nearly $12,000 to one Chesterfield mom working toward her degree in nursing.
211 is a free, confidential referral and information helpline and website that connects people of all ages to essential health and human services, 24 hours a day, seven days a week. In 2021, 211 Virginia connected 3,477 Chesterfield County residents to critical resources like housing support (965 Chesterfield residents), utility assistance (812 residents), healthcare access (614 residents) and more.
$876,627 Invested in Chesterfield County Nonprofits, 12,644 Served
United Way is one of the largest nonprofit funding organizations in the region. Our current funding cycle is delivering $876,627 to 54 programs at 41 local nonprofits serving Chesterfield County residents. In 2021, these investments helped 12,644 Chesterfield residents in need. 875 Chesterfield County Families Received United Way Literacy Kits
Throughout the year, United Way volunteers collect and assemble Literacy Kits for students in our region. Each kit includes school supplies, an age-appropriate book and information for families to help students improve their literacy skills. This year, 875 students and their families received United Way Literacy Kits. Volunteers come from all over Chesterfield County, including groups like Chesterfield Chamber of Commerce and the Black Employee Network at DuPont.
