United Way Celebrates More Than 40 Years of Partnership with Publix Super Markets
United Way’s largest worldwide contributor gives back to the Greater Richmond & Petersburg community.
Richmond, Va. (March 1, 2021) – United Way of Greater Richmond & Petersburg is celebrating its partnership with local Publix Super Market stores for Publix Appreciation Week, March 1-5, 2021.
Having entered our market just four years ago, Publix has quickly become one of the largest United Way of Greater Richmond & Petersburg supporters in the area, raising more than $1.4 million locally since 2017. United Way of Greater Richmond & Petersburg proudly recognized Publix as its 2019 Corporate Partner of the Year at the 2019 Steps to Success Awards breakfast.
Publix has been a long-time supporter of local United Ways across seven states for more than four decades, beginning in 1979. Publix is currently United Way’s largest contributor worldwide.
Corporate partnerships like these allow United Way of Greater Richmond & Petersburg to lead data-driven solutions to major problems in our region, such as homelessness, literacy and financial well-being. This year, United Way will fund a total of $8.7 million in programs at dozens of local nonprofits.

Publix is currently operating 16 stores throughout Greater Richmond and Petersburg. In total, Publix is currently operating 1,267 stores throughout Florida, Georgia, Alabama, Tennessee, South Carolina, North Carolina and Virginia.
