United Way Announces 2023 Community Investments

United Way will invest $2.475 million in a total of 72 programs and 54 partner agencies in the 2023 grant funding cycle.

RICHMOND, Va. (October 5, 2022) – United Way of Greater Richmond & Petersburg has announced the recipients of their 2023 grant funding cycle, allocating $2.475 million to a total of 72 programs at 54 partner agencies. These funds will help to deliver critical services to individuals and families across the region, including the cities of Richmond, Petersburg and Colonial Heights as well as the counties of Charles City, Chesterfield, Dinwiddie, Goochland, Hanover, Henrico, New Kent and Powhatan–11 different localities in all.

Programs funded by this grant will provide community resources and support for nine key areas of need identified by United Way’s Steps to Success framework. These milestones of individual need range from kindergarten readiness and middle school engagement to ensuring older adults are healthy and connected. Using the Steps to Success framework, United Way has chosen community-based and community-led programs that will support these essential milestones that are vital to an individual’s lifelong prosperity.

“Funding services in our region is an important part of United Way’s mission to support individuals and families on their path to success, and we are grateful to our nonprofit partners and generous donors for investing in our local community,” James Taylor, President and CEO of United Way said. “No one service will meet the needs of our community, which is why United Way is committed to supporting programs that will help people wherever they are on their own personal path to success.”
