Funding

We believe in comprehensive solutions to
combat our region’s most pressing issues.

United Way is one of the largest nonprofit funding organizations in the region. We are currently investing in over 70 programs at more than 50 local nonprofit agencies in communities throughout our service area. We use our Steps to Success framework to guide funding decisions and ensure dollars go to organizations and programs working in each of our nine key areas. Visit the our Partners page to see a full list of programs we fund.

Funding Process

The United Way of Greater Richmond & Petersburg’s grant application process for 2024 will be amended and shortened. Instead of an open application process, as has been practiced in recent years, only agencies awarded grants in 2023 will qualify to apply for the 2024 grant cycle. This is a temporary amendment to the application process, and we expect to return to an open application process in the future.

To apply, agencies must complete a shortened application, and will be contacted to schedule a site visit in early 2023. If you have any questions about the application process or any of this information, please contact Josh Epps, Interim Vice President of Community Impact (eppsj@yourunitedway.org).

Community Volunteers

United Way relies on volunteers to support the funding process. The Community Impact Council is staffed by a group of dedicated volunteers.

Support our Community Investments

Funding is made possible through generous gifts from donors who give through workplace campaigns or make individual gifts. Learn more about making a gift to United Way, organizing a workplace campaign at your company or joining one of our giving societies by contacting Josh Epps, Interim Vice President of Community Impact.Â
