For more than 90 years, the Richmond Christmas Mother Fund has helped make the holiday season brighter for families in need across the Richmond region. Founded in 1935, the Fund was created to ensure every child and family could experience the joy of Christmas. Today, supported by the Richmond Times-Dispatch and administered by United Way, the tradition continues – providing toys, gifts, clothing, and food through local nonprofit partners.

The timeline for nonprofits to apply for a 2026 Christmas Mother grant is listed below:
- Applications Open: Monday, August 24
- Applications Close: Friday, September 25 at 11:59PM
- Notification of Acceptance: Friday, October 30
- Grantees required to accept with required uploads (ACH and W9) or decline award: Friday, November 13
- Funds Distributed:
- EFTs by Wednesday, November 18
- Mailed by Friday, November 20
- Final Reports Due: Friday, January 29, 2027
United Way’s Role: As the administrator of the Richmond Christmas Mother Fund, United Way is proud to process donations, distribute designated funds, and support the Richmond Christmas Mother Fund Board of Directors. Through this partnership, United Way helps ensure that community generosity reaches as many individuals and families as possible during the holiday season.
